Events and projects

Yearly or aperiodic events

  • WP:30 kB drive – Expand short vital articles to 30 kB, only in August 2022. Semi-automated tools (AWB) are encouraged, though adding content and references increase byte count the most.
  • Wikipedia:WikiCup. The WikiCup is a championship that has taken place every year on Wikipedia since 2007. The Cup is played and won by skill of ing. The purpose of the Cup is to encourage content creation and improvement and make ing on Wikipedia more fun. There is a new round every month, until the current contest ends; below are the details.
    • May 1 to June 28 – 32 contestants left.
    • July 1 to August 29 – 16 contestants left.
    • September 1 to October 31 – 8 finalists left, the contestant with the highest score will win!

Monthly or continuously ongoing events

  • Monthly contest, WikiProject Military history. The contest department of the Military history WikiProject aims to motivate increased quality in military history articles by offering a form of friendly competition for project members making improvements to them. The primary contest available is a simple rolling competition that awards points for improving articles. The contest runs from the first to last day of each month.
  • Guild of Copy Editors' ing blitz. The August 2022 ing blitz is a one-week long effort of the Guild of Copy Editors to reduce the backlog. This month's themes are: requests from May, June, and July 2022, and articles in the October and November 2021 backlogs.-->. It began 14 August 2022, 00:00 (UTC), and ends 20 August 2022, 23:59 (UTC).

Tip of the day

How to create a subcategory

There are two ways to create subcategories.

  1. Add a category tag to an already existing category page. For example, add the text [[Category:Animals by common name]] to the bottom of the page Category:Apes by common name. Then "Apes by common name" will show up as a category in the list at Category:Animals by common name.
  2. If the sub-category page does not already exist, then you have to create it first (see the tip How to create a category). For example, after you create the Category:Apes by common name page, then you click and add [[Category:Animals by common name]] to the bottom of it.
