Consensus is Wikipedia's fundamental model for orial decision-making: when it doesn't work, nothing else does either.

In situations involving consensus:
DO:
Green check.png Be familiar with relevant policies, guidelines, and past discussions
Green check.png Follow the BOLD, revert, discuss cycle
Green check.png Challenge consensus you disagree with at the right venue(s)
Green check.png Seek broader input where advisable
Green check.png Take intractable disputes to the right dispute resolution process



DON'T:
Red x.svg Don't act like a consensus you disagree with doesn't exist!
Red x.svg Don't use local consensus to ignore wider consensus
Red x.svg Don't close contentious discussions that you are involved in
Red x.svg Don't canvass for support of your position
Red x.svg Don't turn to tendentious ing to get your way
